Lean Irish Fiddle with me!

I began teaching violin and fiddle as a teenager and it’s still one of my favorite things to do. Blayne Chastain, longtime friend and collaborator has developed online learning courses in Irish flute, whistle, bodhrán, piano … and now fiddle! We spent a week in Greeley, CO recording nearly 9 hours of teaching content. There are four stand alone courses, levels 1-4, for the true beginner to the very advanced, along with a lengthy FAQ section.

A bit about my teaching history and philosophy: When I was a kid my mother constantly had fiddle students coming and going from our house, and when old enough I began teaching some of her overflow. Through high school, college and adult life it’s been my steady part time job and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to connect with and share community through music.

In lessons I focus on establishing healthy learning routines and goals while teaching the nuances of folk music, rhythm, tone, phrasing and technique. I am intrigued with different styles of learning and incorporate this is my teaching as much as I can. Learning and mastering tunes is a thrill, no matter the level, age or instrument and my hope is that the content in these courses might help music become a source of joy and connection.
